Peptide storage guide

Lyophilized vs. reconstituted material, refrigeration, temperature exposure, light protection, and general laboratory storage practices.

Lyophilised material

Sealed lyophilised vials are the most stable form the material takes. Held refrigerated at 2–8 °C and protected from light, a sealed vial retains integrity through its documented shelf life. Frozen storage is used for longer archival holds.

Reconstituted material

Once in solution, material is materially less stable. Solutions are refrigerated at 2–8 °C immediately after preparation, kept in the original sealed vial, and treated as short-lived working stock rather than long-term inventory.

Temperature exposure

Brief ambient exposure during transit is expected and accounted for in packaging. What degrades material is sustained warmth and repeated freeze–thaw cycling. Return vials to cold storage promptly and avoid cycling the same vial in and out of the freezer.

Light protection

Store vials in their carton or an opaque container. Direct sunlight and prolonged fluorescent exposure both accelerate degradation of peptide material.

Records and inspection

Record the date of receipt, the date of reconstitution and the diluent volume used against the lot number. Inspect before every use: solutions should be clear and free of particulates, and lyophilised cake should be intact and uniform.
